CONSTRUCTION COORDINATOR - QS
ROLE PURPOSE
The Construction Coordinator will provide technical support in quantity surveying and in the coordination, planning and delivery of Let’s Build school infrastructure. He/She will further support project management and contract administration. The Construction Coordinator should have technical knowledge and skills related to quantity surveying and architectural designing and experience in managing Consultants and Contractors.
SCOPE OF ROLE

Role Dimensions:
Support in quantity surveying and in the implementation of the whole construction project cycle
Design, documentation and increased visibility of Let’s Build school infrastructure.
Support in contract administration and management of Consultants.
Provision of technical support in resolving construction issues.
Development of construction budgets, cost estimates, cost reports
Coordination of Contractors final reconciliations and Interim Payments Certificate (IPCs).
Support in payment administration to Consultants and Contractors.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Develop construction cost estimates, cost reports and budgets
Coordinate Contractors final reconciliations and Interim Payments Certificate (IPCs) including developing Interim Payment Certificate templates and reviewing Contractors’ Payment Certificates from Consultants.
Support in the project management, contract administration and management of Consultants engaged by Let’s Build
Conduct site assessment exercise and develop site plans and all associated documentation for school selection.
Assist in developing tender package documents i.e. Bill of Quantities, cost estimates and invitation to tender including all templates for the procurement of Consultants and Contractors.
Assist in ensuring Consultants and construction work follow all Let’s Build and Government policies and contractual requirements.
Lead in the documentation and visibility for all Let’s Build construction and non-construction works including community engagement activities and site handovers to Contractors.
Recognize, report, and solve problems in a creative, positive, and constructive way and make recommendations for improvements in systems, procedures, and policies.
Participate in meetings with Government officials, Consultants and Contractors and in site meetings and any other community meetings whenever necessary.
Conduct field visits and prepare all construction-related reports as per agreed schedules.
Cultivate strategic relationships with Government officials to ensure construction takes place with quality and within the required timelines.
Support in Due Diligence exercise and evaluation of Contractors and Consultants.
Assist in reviewing all submittals from the Consultant.
Provide technical support as and when needed during implementation of construction works.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying.
· Registered Quantity Surveyor is preferred
· Master’s Degree or Diplomas in other construction related fields is an added advantage
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
At least five (5) years of experience in the construction industry
Proven experience in overseeing the construction of schools or other similar construction projects.
Demonstrated experience in managing Consultants.
Demonstrated experience in producing construction cost estimates, cost reports and final reconciliations for Contractors
Proven experience in construction project management.
Proven experience in design using computer aided construction software e.g AutoCAD
Proven experience in preparation of Bills of Quantity and tender documents estimates.
Proven experience in administering Interim payments certificates.
Experience in working with community led construction procedures.
Strong English language communication skills – both verbal and written.
Computer literate
Ability to collaborate with a wide range of partners and stakeholders, including community, government, and international consultants.
The ability to travel extensively within Malawi is required.
